PRIVATE DENTAL CARE OPTION

Prefer to Spread the Cost of Routine Private Care?

NHS appointment availability can change. If you prefer private routine care, or an NHS place is not currently available, our Crewe dental membership plans provide another option.

Plans start from £21.99 per month and can include:

Two dental health examinations per year

Two or four hygiene appointments per year, depending on the plan

Small X-rays where clinically necessary

A 10% discount on most private treatments, subject to exclusions

Membership is a private arrangement and is separate from NHS treatment. Membership fees do not pay NHS dental charges, and membership discounts do not apply to NHS treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions About NHS Dental Fees

Are NHS dental charges the same at every practice?

Yes. NHS dental charges are set nationally and are the same at NHS dental practices throughout England. Private fees are set independently by each practice and can vary.

Do I pay for every NHS appointment?

You normally pay one charge for each complete course of NHS treatment, even if several appointments are required to complete it.

If you need another course of treatment later, or urgent care followed by separate non-urgent treatment, another charge may apply.

Do I pay Band 1 and Band 2 together?

No. If your course of treatment falls within Band 2, you pay the Band 2 charge only. Band 2 already includes the examination and care covered by Band 1.

The same principle applies to Band 3, which includes the appropriate treatment covered by Bands 1 and 2.

Is a scale and polish always included in Band 1?

A scale and polish is included when your NHS dentist considers it clinically necessary. Cleaning requested only for cosmetic reasons may be offered privately.

Is emergency dental treatment always £27.90?

The NHS unscheduled-care charge in England is £27.90 from 1 April 2026. It covers the clinically necessary urgent care provided during that course of treatment.

Additional non-urgent treatment may require a separate course of treatment and another NHS charge.

Are dental implants available through the NHS?

Dental implants are not routinely provided through general NHS dental care. They may be available through specialist NHS services in limited clinical circumstances.

Private dental implant treatment is available at Allen House Dental Ipswich following a suitability assessment.

Can I choose private treatment if NHS appointments are unavailable?

Yes. You can register as a private patient or choose private treatment where appropriate. We will explain the available treatment options and provide information about likely costs before you decide whether to proceed.

How can I check whether you are accepting new NHS patients in Ipswich?

NHS availability can change. Please check the official Allen House Dental Ipswich NHS listing for the latest published information, or complete our Ipswich contact form to ask our team.

How can I check whether I qualify for free NHS treatment?

Use the NHS eligibility checker or contact the NHS Business Services Authority. Practice staff cannot confirm benefit eligibility or guarantee that an exemption claim will be accepted.
