Appointments and availability

Are you accepting new patients at your Ipswich practice?

We welcome enquiries from new NHS and private patients. NHS appointments are offered subject to current availability and practice capacity.

For the latest NHS information, check our official NHS listing or complete our contact form to ask the practice team. Private appointment availability can also change, so please contact us rather than relying on an availability statement published on the website.

Do you offer same-day emergency appointments?

We reserve a limited number of appointments for urgent dental problems and will do our best to see you as soon as possible. Same-day care is subject to clinical urgency and appointment availability, so it cannot be guaranteed.

Call 01473 251955 as early as possible if you have severe toothache, swelling, dental trauma or a broken tooth. New and registered patients may be offered an emergency appointment, subject to availability. Visit our emergency dentist Ipswich page for more information.

If you cannot reach a dentist and need urgent advice, contact NHS 111. Go to A&E or call 999 for a serious facial or jaw injury, heavy bleeding that will not stop, or severe swelling affecting your breathing or eyes.

How do I book or ask a question?

Call 01473 251955 during opening hours or complete our Ipswich contact form. The form is suitable for routine appointment and treatment enquiries; please telephone the practice for an urgent dental problem.

Our usual opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am–1:00pm and 2:00pm–5:00pm.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring information about your medical history and a current list of medications. If you are claiming help with NHS dental costs, bring valid evidence of your exemption or entitlement.

Tell our team before your visit if you feel nervous, need communication support or have mobility or access requirements.

NHS and private dental care

How much does NHS dental treatment cost?

The NHS dental charges in England from 1 April 2026 are:

  • Band 1 — £27.90: examination, diagnosis and preventive care, including X-rays or scaling when clinically necessary
  • Band 2 — £76.60: everything in Band 1 plus treatment such as fillings, root canal treatment and extractions
  • Band 3 — £332.10: everything in Bands 1 and 2 plus treatment such as crowns, dentures and bridges
  • Unscheduled urgent care — £27.90

You usually pay one charge for a complete course of NHS treatment. See our NHS dental fees page for a fuller explanation.

Can I receive free NHS dental treatment?

Some patients qualify for free NHS dental treatment or help with the cost. Eligibility can depend on age, pregnancy, qualifying benefits, Universal Credit earnings or a valid NHS Low Income Scheme certificate.

Receiving Universal Credit does not automatically mean that every patient qualifies. Please use the NHS eligibility checker before claiming. Practice staff cannot confirm your entitlement, and you are responsible for making an accurate exemption claim.

Can I choose private treatment if I also receive NHS dental care?

Yes. Where clinically appropriate, your dental professional can explain which options are available through the NHS and which are available privately. Choosing a private option does not automatically prevent you from asking for NHS care in the future, although NHS appointments always remain subject to availability.

Any combination of NHS and private care, together with the relevant costs, should be clearly explained in your treatment plan.

How much does private dental treatment cost?

The fee depends on the appointment, treatment complexity, materials and number of teeth involved. We publish current fees for examinations, hygiene care, fillings, crowns, dentures, teeth whitening, implants and other private services on our private dental fees page.

After assessing your needs, we will explain the suitable options and likely cost before treatment begins.

Do you require deposits, and is finance available?

A 50% deposit is normally required when booking private treatment appointments. The practice also offers 0% finance through Chrysalis Finance for eligible treatments over £350, subject to status, approval and the applicable terms and conditions.

Read the payment information on our private dental fees page or contact our team before booking if you have questions.

Membership and the dental team

Do you offer dental membership plans?

Yes. Allen House Dental Ipswich offers three monthly plans covering different combinations of routine dental examinations and standard hygiene appointments. Plan A and Plan B also include a 10% discount on private fees, while Plan C is a hygiene-focused option designed for NHS patients.

Rather than repeating prices and inclusions here, please compare the current Ipswich membership plans. Our team can explain the six-month activation period, exclusions and scheme terms before you join.

Will I see a dentist or a dental therapist?

Depending on your appointment and clinical needs, you may be seen by a dentist or an appropriately trained dental therapist. Dental therapists are regulated dental professionals who provide treatment within their training, competence and professional scope.

If you need care outside that scope, the team will arrange for a dentist to assess or treat you. Please ask us if you would like to know which clinician you will see.

Visiting the practice

Where is Allen House Dental Ipswich, and is parking available?

Allen House Dental Ipswich is located at 51 Berners Street, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 3LN.

We do not have an on-site car park. Time-limited street parking and public pay-and-display car parks may be available nearby. Availability and charges can change, so please check current signs and car-park information before travelling.

What accessibility support is available?

The practice is in a Grade II listed building with three steps at the entrance and currently does not have step-free access. A hearing loop is available at reception and can be moved to a treatment room when required.

Please contact our team before your appointment if you have mobility, hearing or other access requirements. We will explain the current facilities and discuss how we may be able to support you.

What if I need to cancel or rearrange an appointment?

Please give at least 48 hours’ notice whenever possible so the appointment can be offered to another patient. Short-notice cancellation or failure to attend a private appointment may result in a charge or loss of your deposit under the practice’s attendance policy.

Repeated missed NHS appointments may affect the practice’s ability to offer further appointments. Contact our Ipswich team as soon as possible if you need to rearrange.
